Ottawa's Duga Radar is back with a new single called "Decembered". A catchy tune with a combination of airy verses, a Bowie-inspired chorus, and diverse instrumentation, -this new track is a bop fit for the dance floor.
"Feel Your Heartbeat," is a ridiculously catchy Motown meets '70s rock ala Wings number from Ottawa's Duga Radar.
This is indie music made with care. It’s a special song that deserved the right treatment… described as, “Haunting and artistic freak folk -a stripped down indie recording with only acoustic guitar, cello, minimal keyboards, vocal, and pedal steel. It's organic, and charming, -yet undeniably ethereal song writing with moments of falsetto taking the listener through a lucid dream only to return us to reality in it's jarring conclusion.”
Independently produced, “Sudsee” is a mature record that crosses the band more into acoustic songwriting and the realm of freak folk. Special guest Tom Thompson adds a luscious landscape of Pedal Steel throughout. Not quite alt country -but the Jayhawks clearly influenced this sound with a wink to Daniel Lanois and Tom Waits. “Catching Fire in the Rain” is an epic journey of self realization while “Last Dream” sadly personifies what may be on the other side.
Co-Produced by Donnie Leblanc, this 5 song EP takes the band into a more melodic landscape with the Cure influenced “New Geese”, to the Harrison/Blur sentiment of “Can’t Fight”, to the lyrical isolation of “Decembered”, with the Motown/James Jammerson bass melody of “Feel Your Heartbeat” -finally concluding with the agnostic and spiritual coda of “Morningstar” which feels reminiscent of 70’s Wings and Macca.
The band envisioned something raw and unpolished as an intro record. You’ll sense influences of the Kinks, Weezer, Queens of the Stone Age, My Morning Jacket, the Hot Snakes, Teenage Fanclub, Big Star, Eliott Smith, and even David Bowie. Yes it’s raw, guitar driven and distorted, and melodic… and quite possibly summed up as Crowded House meets the Eagles of Death Metal.
